Just back from a few days away, to find the new RITUAL film option deal has been completed. I am as chuffed as cloven-hoofed deity of the woods with the scent of lost hikers in its nostrils. A little while ago, Imaginarium invited me to their studio in Ealing to watch a demo’ of their spectacular performance capture techniques, and I came away thinking that their pioneering animations (PLANET OF THE APES, THE HOBBIT) were perfect for a wonderfully grotesque adaptation of the “things” in my story. Horns crossed that Imaginarium can get this story onto its hind legs. Here’s the press release:
“FILM OPTION DEAL FOR ADAM NEVILL’S HORROR NOVEL THE RITUAL
Imaginarium Studios have optioned Adam Nevill’s horror novel THE RITUAL. The highly praised novel was published in the U.K. in 2011 by Macmillan UK and in the U.S. by St Martin’s Press in 2012. The novel is a contemporary horror tale that follows four men hiking in the northern European forests and the hellish things they discover there.
The deal was brokered by the Gotham Group in Los Angeles, representing the John Jarrold Literary Agency. Imaginarium Studios is jointly-run by Andy Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish. Imaginarium also recently secured film rights for Samantha Shannon’s novel The Bone Season, along with rights to a new adaptation of George Orwell’s Animal Farm.”
