Attended Pan Macmillan’s fine Night of Spirits yesterday evening, with label mates, F. R. Tallis and Seth Patrick, to mingle with our publisher’s staff, the book trade and media in the candle-lit cellar of the Betsy Trotwood in Faringden, one of London’s haunted pubs. A wonderful evening and one in which we raised a glass to the late James Herbert; a giant in Pan Macmillan’s publishing for over four decades. His editor of ten years, Jeremy Trevathan, gave a terrific eulogy. Seth, F.R., and the other one, all have books now emerging onto the long hard road to publication, so it was wonderful to give all of the novels their starting orders in this way. It’s just as well Bella Pagan’s good with a camera because mine mysteriously drained itself of battery power on the way to the pub … and I feel curiously older this morning … Follow the link to see murky creatures skittering through the gloom and grinning out of brick arches.
