On the theme of hauntings in large, old institutions with remote settings, I also enjoyed HOUSE OF VOICES the other night; I’d not seen the first feature film that Pascal Laugier directed, the genius behind MARTYRS and THE TALL MAN, but this is a keeper for me. An atmospheric and stylish French slow burner, with one scene near the end that made the stubble stand up on my scalp. I had a lovely evening, flopped on the sofa with a cold beer, and a cool breeze blowing through the living room, only lit up by the screen as I watched the film. It’s the simple things!
