FILM REC’: DEVOURED

By 28th October 2013Uncategorised

I thought this was a pretty good woman-in-peril psycho-drama. There’s a (slowly) escalating, and horrible, strangeness in tandem with a thorough immersion in the setting, that has the feel of a novel.

Primarily set in a restaurant (French restaurant in NYC), it’s as much about exploitation, alienation, and soul-destroying service industry work as anything else. The maturity in the characterisation really made it stand out for me. Slightly misleading kitchen knife and blood-flecked packaging (though there is plenty of incident later on), but it’s a more sophisticated film than appearances suggest.
